The world knows about Scotch, that wonderful liquid that has been made for generations in a small part of a small island. The international acclaim for Scotch has made it part of our society and drinking habits over the years due to the quality and heritage collected in every drop by generations of experience being handed down for our enjoyment.
Anyone who is familiar with Grants Whisky will know the 12-year variant and now they have done a beautiful rebranding with a very noticeable black bottle to keep all that heritage in. We should also appreciate the Triple Wood ageing process that incorporates Sherry Casks, American Oak and lastly a Bourbon Barrel refill which impart distinct flavours in the distillate.
The ageing process leads it to some very interesting flavour profiles
- Nose – Sweet and sherry-like, with dried fruits. Subtle woody notes and malty undertones.
- Taste – Vanilla, honey, and spice. All mixed together for a rich, sweet flavour. Aged grains and peated malt add depth, too.
- Finish – Long soothing and warm, a feeling you won’t want to rush.
This is a whisky that you can drink on the rocks or with a mix, I prefer mine on a few blocks of ice and as naked as the day it was bottled. For others, this can be mixed easily and will go with anything from Cola to Tonic.
If you have been keeping up with the IWSC awards, then you will know that those medals are very sought after and Grants 12-year has taken quite a few of them home since inception, it shows that this is not just an average spirit or fly-by-night brand.
